Local Floral Designer Receives Coveted Industry Designation

BALTIMORE (July 2015) – Wenonah Marlin AIFD, CFD Director of Lilly’s Floral, located in Price Cutter, in Springfield, Mo. was awarded the floral industry’s coveted Accredited in Floral Design designation and was inducted into the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) during ceremonies on Thursday, July 2 at AIFD’s internationally acclaimed 2015 Symposium “Journey” held June 30-July 4 in Denver, Colo.

A non-profit education association dedicated to the advancement of professional floral design through education and leadership, AIFD Accredited membership is regarded as a high honor in the floral industry. Members are distinguished by the use of the “AIFD” mark as an addendum to their name. They are further considered to be a Certified Floral Designer (CFD).

With over 1,500 members worldwide, AIFD recognizes those who have excelled in their floral design skills. Candidates become accredited by successfully demonstrating their advanced abilities before an international panel of evaluators.

As Director of Floral for Price Cutter/Food Pyramid, Marlin brings a level of expertise to their floral departments that is unmatched by similar companies in Missouri. President/CEO Erick Taylor comments on this accomplishment and what it brings to their company, “Our team is so very proud of Wenonah and her continuing passion for excellence in the floral industry. Wenonah shares her masterful product knowledge and creative skill with her team of designers at Lilly’s Floral which is consistent with the threshold of excellence that we aspire to achieve companywide.”

Owner of Food Pyramid Stores Announces Impending Sale

RPCS, Inc., owner of five Food Pyramid grocery stores in Tulsa, OK, is announcing the impending sale of these stores.

RPCS acquired the five Tulsa stores from Albertson’s in July of 2007 and changed the banner to Food Pyramid. The company will continue to operate 41 stores in Missouri, one store in Kansas, and six in Oklahoma; including Cushing, Stillwater, Ponca City and Bartlesville.

“Our commitment to the Oklahoma market remains vital to our long-range strategic plan and this transaction will better position us to strengthen our other Oklahoma stores. An opportunity was presented when a national company (not in the grocery business) contacted us with interest in three of our Tulsa locations,” explained Erick Taylor, President and CEO of RPCS, “and while negotiations with the national tenant continue, we believe the City of Tulsa will be very excited with their arrival, if the terms are finalized.”

The national tenant is evaluating the three stores at 4818 East 80th Street South, 7990 East 51st Street, and the building at 10122 South Memorial. Reasor’s Foods is acquiring the remaining three stores located at 11214 East 71st Street South, 3328 East 51st Street, and 3915 South Peoria.

“We did not make the decision to exit the Tulsa market lightly. We know the impact will be felt by our shoppers and dedicated associates who have so loyally supported us these past six years,” said Taylor.

“I’m pleased we were able to work with the Reasor’s organization. Like us, they are an independent, employee-owner grocer,” noted Taylor.

He went on to say, “It is our intention to offer positions available at our remaining Oklahoma stores to many associates currently working in our Tulsa locations and also to work with Reasor’s to provide assistance in their consideration of offers to some of our Tulsa team associates.”

“We greatly appreciate the support we have received from both the Tulsa community and our shoppers,” emphasized Taylor.

Reasor’s Foods will be acquiring the Food Pyramid store located at 3915 South Peoria on or about September 3, 2013. The Food Pyramid stores at 4818 East 80th Street South and 7990 East 51st Street will close on September 3, 2013. The remaining two stores at 11214 East 71st Street South and 3328 East 51st Street will be acquired by Reasor’s Foods in early October 2013.

Escott’s is Now Food Pyramid with More Variety and Lower Prices

July 29, 2013—Effective today, the Escott’s grocery store located at 2220 East Main in Cushing is now a Food Pyramid.

Pyramid Foods, which owns 53 employee-owned grocery stores throughout southwest Missouri and northeast Oklahoma, acquired Escott’s in October, 2011 and continued to operate under that banner until today. The Cushing, OK Food Pyramid joins nine others located in Tulsa, Bartlesville, Ponca City and Stillwater.

“While we respect the legacy that the Escott’s name represents to the Cushing community, it is time to unify our Oklahoma stores under the Food Pyramid banner,” explained Larry Hayward, Executive Vice President of Pyramid Foods. “This change in banners is coinciding with our commitment to enhance the shopping experience for Cushing residents by increasing product variety and lowering prices.”

The store now features more international products, an expanded deli department and a greater selection of healthier foods.

“We now offer many more foods from around the world, including exotic offerings from the Far East, Thailand and India, and have dedicated a section of the store to natural and organic products. If you’re gluten-intolerant you need to check out our assortment of gluten-free products,” encouraged store director, Lee Bussell.

The expanded deli now offers shoppers more grab and go foods. Included are croissant sandwiches, subs and wraps, entree salads and family meal options, such as chicken and cheese enchiladas and pot roast and mashed potatoes, all of which are made fresh in store.

“And while I believe our shoppers are going to enjoy all these new product choices, I know they are going to love our new, lower prices,” said Bussell. “We’ve reduced prices on over 6,000 items to save our shoppers more.”

To kick off today’s opening as a Food Pyramid, the store is hosting a ribbon cutting at 9:00 a.m. which the community is invited to attend.

“We’re having a grand opening celebration Saturday, August 3, 2013, from Noon to 2 p.m., and invite everyone to join us,” said Bussell. “Not only are we serving free grilled hot dogs, chips and a soda, we’ve got over $2,200 of free giveaways shoppers can register to win. These include 4 free tickets, with behind the chutes passes, to the upcoming Professional Bull Riders event in Tulsa, a $500 Food Pyramid gift card, a XBOX 360 and Nintendo Wii.

The store will also be hosting a massive meat sale on Thursday, August 1, 2013 and an Old Thyme Produce sale on its parking lot on Friday and Saturday, August 2 -3, 2013.

Food Pyramid Fundraiser Generates Over $16,000 for Moore, OK Tornado Victims

Food Pyramid is pleased to announce that $16,542 was raised during a recent fundraising campaign to support citizens of Moore, OK impacted by last month’s devastating tornado.

On the afternoon of May 20, 2013, an EF-5 tornado ravaged the city of Moore, killing 24 people, including 9 children.

The following day, Food Pyramid shoppers were able to contribute $1, $3 or $5 at checkout with all donations going to Springfield, MO based Convoy of Hope on behalf of Moore, OK tornado relief.

The company’s additional stores in southwest Missouri also participated in the fundraising effort which lasted two weeks.

Considered a “first responder” organization, Convoy of Hope, a 501(c)3 faith-based nonprofit, serves people throughout the world through international children’s feeding initiatives, community outreaches, disaster response and partner resourcing.

“We are so thankful for Food Pyramid and their commitment to helping those in need,” says Hal Donaldson, president of Convoy of Hope. “With their help we are able to bring help and hope to families in Moore. It’s a great example of neighbors helping neighbors.”

Food Pyramid to Provide Relief to Moore, OK

Springfield, MO (May 21, 2013). Food Pyramid is partnering with the Convoy of Hope to accept donations for disaster relief in Moore, Oklahoma. Customers who wish to participate may add $1, $3 or $5 to their total at checkout. All 55 Pyramid Foods’ stores under the banners of Price Cutter, Bistro Market, Food Pyramid, Summer Fresh, Country Mart, Ramey, Smitty’s, Save-A-Lot, Escott’s and Ponca City Discount Foods will be participating in this program.

All the money raised will be given to Convoy of Hope, specifically designated for relief in Moore. This fund provides immediate relief to the victims of the tornado through various supplies, food, water and other support to help those in need.
